Roxy

Roxy arrived for rehoming on 12 March 2025. She is aged 8 years and 3 months on arrival. She is a very sweet little pudding of a dog.

Roxy needs to lose quite a bit of weight, probably around 3-4 kilos so will be on a strict diet, with short slow walks to build up her strength and fitness.

The sort of home for Roxy

  • No dogs in the home

  • No cats in the home

  • No children under the age of 5 years in the home

  • No caged/crated in the home

  • Not left for more than 4 hours at a time

  • Access to her own private and secure garden

Handling

A very friendly, sweet little staffie girl (although overweight at 20.5 kilos, she should be around 16.5). She loves having a fuss, and her little tail goes ten to the dozen. Being overweight makes her a slow, plodding dog at the moment. We hope with weight loss, and more activities her mobility will improve. Roxy cannot jump into cars, so would need to be lifted in, or use a ramp.

Walking

At the moment, based on veterinary advice we have stopped walks for Roxy until she has lost more weight.

She is easy to walk, plodding along at a slow pace. She is not reactive to anything she sees on walks, but she may stop occasionally for a few seconds to catch her breath.

Playing

At the moment her mobility is not good enough for normal play games involve balls and tug toys. She loves having company, and prefers to lie on a soft mattress bed with someone next to her. She would probably love to be on the sofa, but may need a step or stool to get up.

Health

Roxy arrived very overweight, and may need to lose 3-4kg. She is on a diet to hopefully get her down to 17-18 kilos before her next weight target can be assessed. It is very important that her new owner follows her diet and exercise plan.

Her extra weight may have put a strain on her front legs, around the shoulder area of her front legs. As a result of this she is now on metacam and paracetamol to give her pain relief.

She also arrived with an eye injury which the previous owner says was caused by her scratching it by accident. This is healing, and she has to have eye drops until her eye is better.

The previous owner says she needs to take ½ a 16mg Apoquel tablet each day to keep allergies (mould and mites) under control. She is of an age where some vets may consider long-term steroid use as an alternative, which can be a lot cheaper.

She is already neutered as a result of pyometra in 2020, and she is microchipped.

Roxy has seen our vet on 13 and 17 March 2025, and has now had her 1st restart vaccination and her nails clipped.

The adoption contribution for Roxy is £175.00.
