Levi

Levi arrived 12 January 2025 as a stray. He is estimated to be about 2 years of age and is of medium build currently weighing 16.3 kilos, but should weigh closer to 18-20 kilos.

He arrived quite timid, and would suit an experienced and confident owner, but also someone patient to give him time to adjust to his new life and surroundings.

The sort of home for Levi:

  • No dogs or cats in the home.

  • No children living in the home under the age of 12 years.

  • Access to his own private and secure garden (not shared or communal)

  • Access to the sofa for cuddles

  • no cages/crates in the home

Things to consider about Levi:

  • We do not know if Levi is house trained, and therefore you may need to train him in this area. Though we can tell you that he has so far been clean in his kennel overnight.

  • We do not know if Levi is used to being left alone, so you may have to train him to get used to this, gradually building time left alone up to a maximum of 4 hours at a time

Handling

We have given Levi time in our initial handling of him. He was a timid and nervous dog at first, but he will happily take treats off you and sits beautifully. He allowed us to fit him with a new collar, and while we took our time also allowed a temporary harness to be fitted as well.

He does not appear to be skittish or nervous about us handling him, but he does appear to lack at a bit of confidence. We gave him a meal as soon as he arrived, and he ate almost as if he was not allowed to, regularly coming away from the bowl as if he had done something wrong.

The longer he has been with us the more attached he has become and he has proven to be a very friendly, affectionate dog.

Walking

On our first walk he was very reluctant to go and seemed nervous of his new surroundings and timid. He regularly had to be encouraged as we walked down a very quiet road. When we reached an area off-road, a grassy area with some bushes and trees he relaxed more. On our return to the kennels, he pulled more, it was manageable.

During the walk we passed a pair of dogs, and while they were calm so was Levi. Then one of the other dogs growled and barked at Levi, but Levi remained impassive, did not react back and instead just looked at the other dog.

He may occasionally bite the lead, which is often a sign of a lack of confidence.

On subsequent walks he has continued to be reluctant particularly in busier areas, but better in quiet areas, or when on grass. He may weave quite a bit, and sometimes walk at the full length of the lead, and he does need encouragement and will suit a patient owner.

Playing

Levi has not shown any interest in toys yet. This could be because he is still a bit shutdown, but it could also be that he is not used to toys, and this will come to him in time. In fact, some toys seemed to scare him a little, especially squeaky toys, and he seemed to prefer to sit next to us on the sofa for a fuss.

Health

Levi arrived very underweight. He weighed 16.3 kilos on arrival, and we have a current target weight of 18-20 kilos until he sees our vet. We are feeding him three meals a day as he builds his weight up. The weight target is just a guide at the moment and his final weight may be higher or lower as he gets closer to it.

He saw our vet on 14 January 2024 and has had his 1st restart vaccination, and is now microchipped. He has a chipped tooth and he will be having this extracted on 20 January 2024. He also has ear mites and is being treated for these with a course of Canaural for 5 days.

The adoption contribution is £250.00.
