Leia

Leia is a 4 ½ year old border collie-cross who arrived for rehoming 8 March 2025. Leia is looking for an active, confident, and experienced owner.

It is always difficult to work out sizes from photos, but Leia is a tall, leggy and lean dog, and she weighs 25.5 kilos.

The sort of home for Leia

  • No dogs in the home

  • No cats/small animals in the home

  • No children under the age of 12 years

  • An active home

  • Experienced and confident owner

  • No cages/crates in the home

  • Not left for more than four hours at a time.

  • Access to her own private and secure garden (not shared or communal)

Handling

Leia is a very friendly, almost puppy-like adult dog that may need a bit of time to get to know new people. This may mean she will bark at strangers. However, this soon passes, and she has shown no aggression or dominance to any of our handlers, just the odd bark here and there when meeting a new volunteer dog walker. Leia takes treats very gently.

Leia was with us briefly over a year ago and was rehomed but her owners are now no longer able to keep her.

Walking

Our volunteer dog walkers have commented how lovely and easy Leia is to walk, but she is still a young strong dog, and may pull towards dogs.

She may often walk at the length of the lead. She has not been reactive to traffic or people. She walks well if you engage with her on a walk, i.e. talk to her and reassure her, or redirect her if necessary with treats.

She normally walks with a muzzle as we found that this has a calming effect on her.

Playing

Absolutely loves to play, and plays with every type of toy. She is a very clever dog and will listen to instructions/commands.

Training

Leia can do sit, paw, touch, down, eyes perfectly, and middle she is almost getting right. She loves to learn new things.

Health

Leia saw our vet on 11 March 2025 and she was as good as gold. She had her 1st restart vaccination and Kennel Cough vaccine. She is already neutered and microchipped.

Leia takes one trazodone tablet each day which helps with her anxiety on walks. Her walks have been perfect. It may be possible, after she has been adopted and settled properly to reduce and then later end the trazodone. We have just ordered six months worth for £30.

The adoption contribution for Leia is £225.00.
